Northern italy

The last three weeks were spent with Italy. This time was spent in the north of the country, where my mom’s side of the family immigrated from. Mostly by train and a little by car, a great deal was seen: from bustling and vivid Milan in the west, to Verona, where the impressive and well-preserved arena built almost two thousand years ago still shows operas to this day. A day trip to Sirmione got rearranged and somehow led to the best lunch and the most beautiful views of Lake Garda. Then came Belluno, farther northeast, where the people were warm and welcoming, sometimes speaking only in Italian, as if they had known you for some time. And Longarone, where my ancestors once lived and began their long journey to Brazil. Finally, Reggio Emilia with its ancient history, on the way back to Milan.

It's been difficult to put it all into words. The places, the insights, and the movement were all very impactful to me. I was able not only to experience these external moments, but also to observe and look inward, crossing many canyons, tunnels, and mountains both real and metaphorical. I feel grateful for all that you gave and taught me during this time. I feel invigorated to be traveling and following my dreams. I feel you with me, helping me shape what comes next. Grazie mille per tutto!

  1. Pela primeira vez senti minhas origens, através de ti. Foi emocionante ver as fotos desses lugares onde meus bisavós maternos viveram.
    Agradeço muito esta tua aventura.
