I arrived in Marrakech on a Tuesday evening. After an hour waiting at the passport control line, I headed outside and was greeted by my ride, who had been patiently waiting that whole time. He is the brains behind the school I will be volunteering at. Our hour and a half drive to El Kelaa des Sraghna was the perfect time for us to learn about each other. He shared how he grew up in a small town called Laattaouia on an olive farm and had the idea to create a language school there. His vision was not just any language school but one where students could interact and be exposed to other cultures . He strongly believed that enabling students to engage with foreigners would help expand their horizons and experiences. This belief led to the hybrid model the school thrives on today. Cheguei em Marrakech numa terça-feira à noite. Depois de uma hora esperando na fila de controle de passaporte, fui recebido pela pessoa que veio me pegar, que estava esperando todo esse tempo. Ele é o cérebro por trás da escola em que serei voluntário. Nossa viagem de uma hora e meia até El Kelaa des Sraghna foi o momento perfeito para aprendermos um sobre o outro. Malta is a truly unique place; centuries of mixed cultures have shaped its charm and beauty. My main reason for visiting was to meet up with a high school friend. He often travels around the world to attend shows from our favorite music label, so this leg was a bit different from my main objectives on this journey. It was great to reconnect and share our mutual joy for music. I arrived a few days before him and stayed at a hostel for the first time since I started my travels. There, I met other travelers, exchanged stories, and even joined up for some sightseeing. Malta é um lugar verdadeiramente único; séculos de culturas mistas moldaram seu charme e beleza. Meu principal motivo para visitar foi encontrar um amigo do ensino médio.
